Task/Exercises
Week 1 (13/04/2020): Briefing
Our first online class consist of a briefing for the module by Mr. Martin and Mr. Fauzi. We were told to make a folder and organize it according to the weeks. A brief on the projects and exercises were also given by the lecturers. One of the tasks to do today was the Beziers game, i.e, a game to practice using the pen tool in Photoshop.
Exercises: Mr. Martin told us to find three favorite Photoshop pictures and these are my choices:
 |
| Fig.1.1 |
 |
| Fig.1.2 |
 |
| Fig.1.3 |
I chose these because I find them interesting. As seen in the first figure, its an edit of a dancer that seems to get perished I guess. I like how clean it looks and it sort of imply a "dance on fire" effect. On the second picture - a giraffe that's peeking into the clouds. This picture reminds me of the times when I'm on a plane looking through my window and I'd wish I live in the clouds because of how pretty the view is. Moving to the last image, a girl trapped in a bottle in the middle of the ocean. This one caught my attention because of the colour in the image which is blue. And the edit here is quite impressive as well.
We were given another exercise by Mr. Martin where he sent a video of how to edit a picture into another one. And he gave these images to work with:
 |
| fig.1.4. Shazam |
 |
| fig.1.5. Hearst Mansion |
The task was to edit
Shazam into the
Hearst Mansion using Photoshop
. I followed the instructions given my Mr. Martin in his video and the process is as follow:
 |
| fig.1.6 |
It wasn't my first time using the software. I've used it for my photography class during foundation and fortunately I still remember a few tools. First I cropped Shazam and copied it to the mansion image as shown. It took me awhile to crop it as I still get a few areas that weren't clean. But I eventually made it!
 |
| fig.1.7 |
I then scaled the image to an appropriate size and used the brush tool to add some shadows to the subject.
 |
| fig.1.8 |
Then I copied the shazam layer as a new layer and inverted the image vertically as shown. And then edited the colors so it would match the background and finally cropped it using the pen tool to make it seem like a reflection.
 |
| fig.1.9. Final outcome |
And here is how it turned out! Not gonna lie I was actually proud of it had turned. With this exercise I learned a lot more new tools and hopefully I won't forget them anytime soon.
Now this time is the real exercise, the one above was just a practice. Instead of Shazam, we were supposed to use our own picture. I had a hard time finding one because people rarely take pictures of me :( just kidding haha if only we had a physical class with everyone in, it'd be a lot easier to get it. Anyway, after digging deep into my phone gallery, I decided to use this picture for the exercise:
 |
| fig.1.10. |
 |
| fig.1.11. |
I repeated the steps I did as the previous one and edited the image to look better.
 |
| fig.1.12 |
In this figure I have inverted myself for the reflection and its starting to look a bit more natural.
 |
| fig.1.13. The Result |
And that's how it looks. I still felt something didn't seem right in here but I couldn't point what it was but I guess this looks good enough.
Week 2 (20/04/2020): Intro into Photoshop
For this week Mr Martin gave us feedback on the hearst mansion exercise. He said that mine needed a little bit more shadow for the one where I'm in it. And everything else was good.
He also gave another exercise for us, similar to the previous one. But this time is to edit a ghost bride into an old house. And here are the process:
 |
| fig.1.14. Ghost bride |
 |
| fig.1.15. dark cloud background |
 |
| fig.1.16. An old house |
These are the pictures used for this exercise.
 |
| fig.1.17. |
Firstly I imported the pictures into photoshop and traced the house like so
 |
| fig.1.18. |
And then moved it into the dark cloud background and resized it with the transform tool to make it seem small.
 |
| fig.1.19. |
The next step is to bring the bride in and I used the multiply blending tool to get rid of the black background from the original picture. And I also used the pen tool to hide the lower part of the bride's body, so it looks like its in the house.
 |
| fig.1.20. |
Last but not least, a added a glowing effect on the bride using gradient as instructed by Mr. Martin in his demo video.
 |
| fig.1.21. Final Look |
And here is the outcome!
Week 3 (27/04/2020): Into to Photoshop 2
Week 4 (4/05/2020)

Project 2
Sketches for project 2b
I came up with the idea after scrolling through the internet for some references. I decided to make myself into a cyborg with one arm mechanic and the other arm looks like human's. I first tried to sketch a whole body view with some of the references I collected and then sketched the part that i want to edit.
For the first idea I thought of a cyborg holding human's snacks like a bag of chips and chocolates with the cyborg arm having its sleeves folded to expose the metal underneath. It may look quite simple but I guess its hard when it comes to the editing part.
The next idea I have is me trying to fix the cyborg arm with the other arm on a table. I picture this like how a normal human me would put on makeup on a vanity mirror, meanwhile the cyborg me would be fixing or we could say testing if there's any damage to the arm.
